How to Post an MP3 File to Your Facebook Profile

Have you ever wanted to share an MP3 file with all your friends via Facebook?
Well, I have just discovered an incredibly easy way to do that!
The following steps do require you to sign up for a service (KEEP READING!), but that service is one that I highly recommend, and have been using constantly for the past 2 years. The service (Dropbox) will be used to host your MP3 files, since Facebook won't let you upload a .mp3 file. They have never sent me junk mail, and have GREAT customer service. They allow you to host and share any kind of file, as long as it conforms to their terms. Again, I highly recommend it for many reasons.

How to set up your Dropbox account:
(Click on any image to view a larger version.)

Use this link to create your account.
(If you use the link above, my company will be awarded an extra 25MB of space.)

(Image and text input box positions may differ from this image.)

Make sure to agree to the Dropbox Terms.

Download the Dropbox desktop application. (For uploading files over 30MB.) You can skip this step by typing "Dropbox.com" into your address bar.

This is what your Dropbox home page will look like. Click on the Public Folder, as seen in the image.

Click on "Create new folder", as seen in the image.
Name it what ever you want. "Facebook MP3s" is a good one.

Enter the folder you just created by clicking on it, then click on "Upload" to upload your MP3 file for sharing on Facebook.

Click "Choose files".

Navigate to your file, and then select "Open".

Wait for the file to upload. Larger files take longer to upload. (You will not be able to upload files over 30MB without the desktop application. Instructions for uploading with the desktop application can be found at the end of this tutorial.)

Click inside the box (seen in the image) to select the file. (Basically just click anywhere but on text.)

Click on "Copy Public Link".

Click on "Copy to clipboard".

Paste the link you just copied (Ctrl+V) into the "Update Status" box on your Facebook page.
Wait for the preview to load, and then erase the link.

Click on the text near "Artist", and "Album" to change their content.
Make sure to erase the link you just pasted into the text box. (The link preview will not go away, but the link won't be cluttering up your post.)

What your post will look like, when you're finished.

Uploading files via the Dropbox Desktop Application:
1. Download the Dropbox Desktop Application.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the application.
3. Navigate to the folder you wish to upload to inside the Dropbox folder. (Explained in the onscreen instructions.)
Note: You must upload the file to the Public folder (already in your Dropbox folder), or a folder subsidiary to the Public folder, in order for the Facebook sharing to work.
Note: You can create and delete files/folders inside the Dropbox and subsidiary folders, just like you can on your computer. If you create a new folder, that folder will also be synced to, and will appear in, the online user interface.
4. Drag the file you wish to upload to Facebook, into that folder.
5. You will be notified when the file is finished uploading, via the notification section of your Operating System.
7. Right click on an uploaded file. Right Click> Dropbox> Copy Public Link.
Continue with above (illustrated) instructions to see how to post to Facebook.

I know all these instructions sound long, and complicated, but most of it is one time only stuff, that once done, will stay done. Once you get used to uploading stuff to Dropbox, all this will go like a breeze. Good luck! And I'd love to see some of your comments below.

Feel free to copy and re-post this content or the graphics, but please do link back (or reference us if using the images offline). Thanks!

Special thanks to the Dropbox team for their amazing service;
and to my friends for sparking the idea to write this.

Pages widget "already added". Blogger Blog

OK,
If you have added the pages widget into blogger before, and then deleted it, and now you can't add it back in again, here is a solution to the problem in the New Blogger Interface!
(If this doesn't fit your case specificaly, just go ahead and try it. It might work, but no guarentee. Good Luck!)
TIP: Under Blogger>Your Blog>Pages, at the top of the pages list, and to the right, there is a line that says "Show Pages As". Make sure that either "Top Tabs", or "Side Links" is selected. If you have "Don't Show" selected, this won't work.
Open a new tab, and then Paste this code (don't press Enter yet!):
http://www.blogger.com/rearrange?blogID=[YOUR BLOG'S ID # HERE]&action=editWidget&sectionId=crosscol&widgetType=null&widgetId=PageList1
Switch tabs, and go to Blogger>Your Blog>Layout>and then click on "Edit" on ANY of your widgets.
Look for these words in the URL of that pop-up window: ...blogID=...
Copy the number code that follows the "=" sign. (i.e. Copy your blog's ID #.)
Then switch back to the tab containing the URL you just copied and pasted a minute ago, and highlight the "[YOUR BLOG'S ID # HERE]" section. Ctrl+V your blog's ID # there.
Press enter, and...
I hope this works for you. It worked for me, so I thought I'd share my success. If it doesn't... Sorry, I'd love to help, but I really know very little about this system, so I can't be of much use. Good Luck!

No, I'm not on the Blogger team. (So don't bother asking!)

How to make your Blogger blog look like a professional web site!

Hey everyone. Today I am going to write a set of tips on how to make your Blogger blog look like any other professional site. Feel free to skip or modify any of these steps as you customize your blog. And if you need any help in such modifications, feel free to contact me. This is written to people that at least know somewhat of how blogger works. (Posts, what can be customized in the template, etc.)

Note: These steps can be used in either the old Blogger interface, or the current one. (As of Feb. 2012.)

1. Pick your template. (Blogger>Template>Customize>Picture Window> Selection 2)
I used the "Picture Window" template for mine, and that is what I will be addressing these steps for. However, most, if not all the steps, should be applicable to any template.
-Also be sure to add your background of choice here. Make sure that it complies with the resolution requirements, because if it doesn't, it will show up as an eyesore on the page.

2. Customize your template. (Blogger>Template>Customize>Advanced)
Here you can customize your tab color, and Fonts, and other such important items, to the way you need them. Just keep digging in, it's amazing how much you can customize, just in these menus alone.

3. Insert a Logo, and Center it.
If you have a logo, you can insert it instead of the "Title and Description" in your blog.
First go to - Blogger>Layout>Header>Insert Image (or just Image). Make sure to mark the box labeled "Instead of title and description". [Note: It is helpful if your logo image is a .png file, with transparency. Especially if your template has a transparency theme.]
Next you want to center your logo:
Go to Blogger>Template>Customize>Advanced>Add CCS. Then copy and paste this code:
" #Header1_headerimg {margin:0 auto;} ". (Everything inside the " ".)
Remember to preview your blog first, to make sure that everything is the way you want it, before saving your template.

4. Now, to get rid of the "blogger bar" and resulting empty space.
Go to Blogger>Template>Edit HTML. Then Search for the following line of code:
" ". Before that line, paste this code:
" #navbar - iframe { display: none !important; } ". Remember to preview your blog first, to make sure that everything is the way you want it, before saving your template.

5. Get rid of the page names (You can skip this step if you need or like these.)
Go to Blogger>Pages>Edit (the page)>HTML. At the top of each page you wish to hide the title on, copy and paste this code: " "

6. To make your blog look extremely professional, change your layout to only one column. To do this, go to Blogger>Template>Customize>Layout>. I have mine set as the first selection on both options. [Note: If your tabs are now forced onto two lines go to: Blogger>Template>Customize>Adjust Widths. Keep adjusting this until you get it perfect. (Or close to it. After that, open it up about 5px, so that it will show correctly on all browsers and screens.]

7. I suggest changing the "credits" to honor you or your company with a copyright symbol. Here is one to make your job easy. Just copy and paste: " © ".

8. There are quite a few additional tweaks that can be made to your site, but all those can be found simply by researching them. My most reccomended is the "Photos" issue with blogger. There simply aren't very "user friendly" slide show widgets for your side bar, or slide show HTML codes for your pages. I found, after spending almost a whole day looking for it, this trick. You will need a Picasa account. (Picasa being google's online photo organizer.) If you have Gmail, you probably already have one. (Just sign in like you would to your Gmail account, at the link below.)
To add a photo slide show to your blog page, go to PicasaWeb.Google.com, and any images of your choice to an album. Then, from the home page, enter the album (click once on it) and then make the album public. Once the album is made public, you will see on the right hand side of your screen, near the bottom, the words: "Link To" click on that, and then click on "Embed Slide Show". That will open a window with customization options, and generated HTML code. Copy and paste that HTML code into a blog post, or your blog page, and you're good to go.

TIP: So you removed the blogger Navbar right? Now how do you sign in without constantly typing in "www.blogger.com"?
Add this code to the "Attribution" section (Blogger>Layout>Attribution.):
" Sign In ". It will add something that looks exactly like this: Sign In.

Special thanks to Joel Solberg, and Jonathan Doyel for all the encouragement they have given me.
(Even though sometimes they didn't know they were giving it. LoL.)

NOTE: Please comment with anything I have forgotten, or that it doesn't work. I'll try to update ASAP.

Thanks.

Cyclists participating in the United Methodist Relief Center Cycle South Carolina event stopped in Orangeburg last Wednesday to rest as they continued on their 400-mile trek around South Carolina.
Among those participating was the Cupka family, including mother Faith, father Cary, 8-year-old Cherilyn and 13-year-old Stefan.
The group raised money for repairing and rehabilitating substandard housing, and providing new housing for very low-income families primarily in the Lowcountry. Find out more at www.umrc.org/aboutus.html.
